Ranitomeya Benedicta "Shucushuyacu"
This is a larger species of thumbnails frogs and comes from the lowland rainforest of the Pampas del Sacramento in northeastern Peru. They can be housed in groups but should be male heavy.
As always care should be taken to watch for any aggression in case any frogs need to be separated. They can reach sexual maturity in 6-8 months of age and live in captivity for 10+ years. The adults of this species are very quick so care should be taken when opening the tank! They are relatively easy to breed but the eggs can be hard to find. They will typically lay their eggs in film canisters or in leaf litter. No parental care is provided after the eggs have been laid so they need to be raised outside of the tank, or pull the tadpoles once they’ve been placed into pools of water.
